Sustainable construction with aluminium

The secret of sustainable construction lies – you guessed it  - also in aluminium. Doors, windows,  conservatories, façades and more in aluminium combine the best properties for your quality of life. Sustainability is an important aspect. The material helps insulate and thus contributes to protecting the climate. And that is not all.

Building a sustainable house

Building sustainably is a matter of making choices. Good for the environment and for your wallet. So you can aim for a virtually energy-neutral -- or even a passive -- house. And that is where sound advice from your building partners and sustainable construction specialists comes in handy.

The energy performance of door and window profiles is important for your joinery, for instance: heat losses can be reduced with  perfect airtightness and thermal insulation. Increasing the energy efficiency of buildings and reducing the ecological footprint is what sustainable construction is all about.

Cradle to Cradle and sustainable construction

The question then is: which material fits best in the concept of sustainable building? The answer is aluminium. It makes sense too, because aluminium joinery is a sustainable product that can be recycled again and again without any loss of quality. That is one of the principles of Cradle to Cradle, the ultimate form of sustainable business and construction. It means that raw materials can be fully reused without losing value.

If a manufacturer or supplier invests in sustainable construction, it can be Cradle to Cradle Certified,™ i.e. with a globally recognized benchmark for safer and more sustainable products for the circular economy where raw materials are fully reused at the end of the product life. Aluminium is a case in point.

Sustainable construction with aluminium – 100% recyclable

Aluminium is the right choice if you really want to build sustainably, especially with Aliplast aluminium. Aluminium doors and windows have an average lifespan of 50 years. The material can be easily melted, shaped and reshaped without loss of quality. It is therefore 100% recyclable. Aliplast mainly uses recycled aluminium billets - 'Green Metal' - for architectural systems.

The process waste from extruded aluminium profiles and painted/anodized scrap is melted together and transformed into new billets. The energy required for this is only 5% of the energy needed to make a new billet from raw materials.

Aliplast: ‘sustainable construction’ in its DNA

Sustainable construction  is in Aliplast's DNA as well as in its products. We are always looking for new solutions for circular construction. That is why we received the Cradle to Cradle (C2C) certificate for several systems for which we got a positive score on the 5 criteria: material health, material reuse, renewable energy, water management, and social justice. Along with ISO and BREEAM, this certificate underscores our commitment to continue on a clear sustainability path.

Our efforts on the sustainable construction front are also reflected in our projects with individuals and professionals. A great example is Barry Callebaut's chocolate warehouse, the largest and most sustainable warehouse in the world. It is a building with BREEAM certification thanks to the Star75 windows and MC Wall curtain wall.

And then you would want a sustainable supplier for your aluminium doors and windows  too, wouldn’t you? Private individual or architect? Our website shows you the way.
